Plastic Surgery (Johannesburg)

Dr. Saul Braun, one of South Africa's leading plastic surgeons runs an extremely busy cosmetic surgery practice. Dr. Braun (who performs all plastic surgery procedures in Johannesburg) was the Clinical Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand and at the Johannesburg group of teaching hospitals until he decided to go into private practice.

Dr. Braun also consults overseas (see Overseas Consulting ) and presents academic lectures and workshops at local and international meetings. Dr. Braun has published many articles in highly respected international surgical journals and has contributed several Chapters to surgical books. Post graduate Plastic Surgeons spend time in theatre with Dr Braun to familiarise themselves with newer techniques.

Due to the weakness of the South African Rand relative to other major currencies, overseas patients will find our rates very affordable while at the same time being cared for in a world class environment. Medical care on a par with the best in the world at the Rosebank Clinic, a modern, 135-bed private clinic situated in Rosebank, one of Johannesburg's prestigious northern suburbs. The Clinic is conveniently situated opposite Dr Braun's consulting rooms, and has built its world-renowned reputation through the provision of extraordinary patient care.

Dr Braun was recently interviewed by:

Dr Braun's interview with Ruth Evans for BBC Radio 4

"The demand for cosmetic surgery is spreading to Africa and is no longer just the preserve of the rich and famous. From Cape Town to Cairo, there's a growing appetite for plastic surgery. South Africa is already one of the world's top destinations for those in search of a cheap tummy tuck, breast enhancement or facelift, with perhaps a safari on the side. Up until now, most patients have come from the US and Europe, but this situation is changing fast as increasing numbers of patients from within the continent travel to South Africa for treatment. And there are clinics opening up in other African countries too, including Nigeria and Kenya. Ayisha Yahya meets doctors and patients, hears about the procedures demanded and explores the dilemmas of offering such surgery in countries where many still have little or no access to basic health care. And what does it tell us about changing perceptions of beauty in Africa today?"
